Will you bill my insurance company?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We work with every insurance company and are a preferred provider for over 300 of them, including PEMCO, Farmers, American Family, Allstate, Safeco, GEICO, Progressive, Liberty Mutual, and MetLife. We handle the billing directly, so you don't chase paperwork.

My insurance company told me to call a third-party billing service. Do you work with them?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all of them. Most insurance companies now process glass-only claims through third-party billing networks like Lynx Services, Safelite Solutions, and Harmon Solutions. Those two biggest networks alone handle claims for roughly 150 insurance companies, and our systems are linked to bill every one of them directly.

Can my insurance company require me to use a specific glass shop?

Accepted Answer

No. Oregon law protects your right to choose your own glass shop. Your insurance company can recommend a shop, but the decision is yours. If a claims rep pressures you toward their network shop, you can simply tell them you've chosen Collision Auto Glass & Calibration.

How do I file a glass claim?

Accepted Answer

Call us first. We get on a three-way call with your insurance company and file the claim with you, start to finish. You verify your coverage, we handle the shop details, and the whole thing usually takes about ten minutes.

Will a glass claim raise my insurance rates?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, no. Glass claims are typically filed under comprehensive coverage as no-fault claims, so they don't usually affect your rates the way an at-fault accident would. Your agent can confirm how your specific policy handles it.

Question 6

How much will I pay out of pocket?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your coverage. If you carry full glass coverage, you could pay as little as $0 today. If you have a comprehensive deductible, you pay that amount directly to us after the work is completed, and we bill your insurance for the rest. We will never charge more than your insurance allows.

Can my insurance company make me use non-OEM glass?

Accepted Answer

Insurance companies can steer you toward aftermarket glass, which is why it pays to have us in your corner. For some vehicles, we recommend OEM-branded glass if there's a dramatic difference in quality. We'll always tell you up front what glass we're using and why, and we'll work with your insurer to make sure the job is done correctly.

Can my windshield be repaired instead of replaced?

Accepted Answer

Often, yes. If the chip is smaller than a quarter and sits outside your direct line of sight, repair is usually the answer. Damage larger than a quarter, cracks that reach the edge of the glass, or damage directly in front of the driver typically means replacement. Bring it by either shop or send us a photo and we'll verify which one you need.

How much does rock chip repair cost?

Accepted Answer

$90 per chip. Many insurance policies cover chip repair at no cost to you because it's far cheaper than paying for a full replacement later. We'll check your coverage on that three-way call.

How long can I drive with a cracked windshield?

Accepted Answer

Shorter than you'd think. Temperature swings, potholes, and even hitting the defroster can spread a crack overnight. Once a crack starts spreading, repair is off the table and you're into replacement territory. Getting a chip fixed the week it happens is the cheapest decision you'll make on your car this year.

How long does a windshield replacement take?

Accepted Answer

Most replacements take about an hour, plus cure time. We use a Dow urethane with a 30-minute safe drive-away time that meets or exceeds all OEM specifications. It costs us more to use, but it means you're back on the road the same morning instead of waiting around all day.

Question 12

Do you replace side windows and back glass too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We replace door glass, vent glass, quarter glass, and back windows on all cars, trucks, and SUVs. On back glass jobs we also reconnect your defroster and antenna lines and test them before you leave, and we vacuum out the broken glass. Do you offer mobile service?

Accepted Answer

Yes, free mobile windshield replacement and auto glass service throughout our Portland metro service area, from Hillsboro and Beaverton down through Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego, West Linn, Wilsonville, and beyond. We come to your home or workplace at no extra charge. Mobile service excludes rock chip repair, which we handle at either shop.

How fast can you get me in?

Accepted Answer

Usually same day or next day. Call the shop closest to you: Portland at (503) 656-3500 or Tualatin at (503) 678-9910. If your window is shattered and your car isn't secure, tell us and we'll prioritize you.

Question 15

What happens to my old glass?

Accepted Answer

We dispose of or recycle it at no additional charge. Some shops bill you for disposal. We don't.

Question 16

Do I need to recalibrate my ADAS after a windshield replacement?

Accepted Answer

If your vehicle has a forward-facing camera behind the windshield, yes. Lane departure warning, collision avoidance, and adaptive cruise control all depend on that camera being aimed precisely. Replacing the glass moves the camera's reference point, and an uncalibrated system can misjudge distances or fail to react when you need it.

Do you do the calibration in-house?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We calibrate with the Autel MaxiSYS system at our shops, so there's no separate trip to the dealer and no waiting days for an appointment somewhere else. Glass and calibration get done in one visit.

Question 18

How do I know if my car has ADAS?

Accepted Answer

If your car was built in the last several years and has features like lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, or adaptive cruise control, it has ADAS. Look for a camera housing near your rearview mirror. Not sure? Give us your VIN when you request a quote and we'll tell you exactly what your vehicle needs.

Question 19

What warranty do you offer?

Accepted Answer

A lifetime no-leak guarantee for as long as you own your vehicle. It covers workmanship and leakage on the part we replaced. The guarantee isn't transferable and doesn't cover pre-existing damage or new damage that occurs after installation. Parts themselves are guaranteed by the manufacturer. If you ever notice an issue, bring it to us promptly so we can make it right before it causes further damage.
